Second Life Upcycling is about rethinking how our fashion choices may affect the environment and what we can do to reduce this impact through clothes upcycling, learning basic alteration skills, and purchasing second hand instead of new.

Second Life Upcycling is about giving everyday items a second life and to inspire others to recycle, repurpose, refashion, reuse, and rethink. On this website, you’ll find clothes upcycling ideas, thrifting tips, sewing and clothes altering tutorials.

My upcycling journey (so far)…

I have been thrifting, second-hand shopping, and sewing for 30+ years. I started in the 1980s, out of necessity, as a struggling student.  Now, decades later, I have made it my purpose to no longer buy clothes new (except undergarments and swimwear).  My wardrobe now only comprises clothes I have owned for a long time, purchased second hand or hand-me-downs. I try to purchase the majority of my thrift clothes purchases from the ‘last chance’ rack where they are destined for landfill or to be turned into rags.

Living an environmentally friendly life…

I follow ethical style when it comes to my clothing choices and try to tread as lightly as possible upon the earth. I want to encourage others to consider purchasing their clothes second hand too and resist the urge to indulge in environmentally unfriendly fast fashion.

A corporate job and a second hand wardrobe…

In my real life, I have a corporate job. Until I tell them, my colleagues and clients have would have no idea that my professional wardrobe is second hand!

rethink, reuse, repurpose, recycle…

Based in Sydney Australia, I hope my tutorials resonate with a global audience and encourage others to rethink, reuse, repurpose and recycle.

Thanks for stopping by. Be sure to come back regularly as I try to upload new content weekly.
