5 beautiful thrift haul purchases for $20.50.
In this thrift haul video I’ve featured the 5 garments I bought this week within my $20 budget limit (I went 50c over!). I explain why I chose each item and what I plan to do to upcycle some of them to fit. Let’s get started…
Thrift purchase 1 – Lace dress $5
The first item I bought was a gorgeous lace dress for $5. It is fully lined and has a flattering cross pattern on the front. Unfortunately, the dress was a bit too small for me but this doesn’t matter because there is a long zip at the back which gives me lots of options when it comes to altering it to fit. I’ll probably reduce the length and make it into a top. I’ll upload a video as soon as I’ve finished this upcycling project.
Thrift purchase 2 – Jumpsuit $5
I also picked up this jumpsuit for $5. It fits me well at the top but I think I’ll take in the width of the pant leg and reduce the leg hem length. It was a quick and easy upcycling project and I’ll upload a video after I’ve done it. I’m even thinking of dying it a darker colour. I’m not sure yet…
Thrift purchase 3 – Playsuit $2
Next, I got this cute playsuit for $2. It’s way too small for me and not a style I would wear but I love the sleeves and have an upcycling project on the go that I think the sleeves will be perfect for. I won’t waste any of the left over fabric because it’s so pretty and delicate. Stay tuned for the results…
Thrift purchase 4 – Sundress $5
Next, I got this beautiful sundress for $5. I adore the fabric and can’t go past anything with birds. I don’t need to do anything with this dress as it fits me well. I’d love to be able to wear it all year round so may add some sleeves to it. I’m still thinking about this one…
Thrift purchase 1 – Dress $3.50
And finally, I got this vibrant cotton dress for $3.50. It’s got a striking tropical pattern. The style is not very flattering on me but it should be an easy upcycling project to alter it to fit.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope I’ve inspired you to get thrifting.
See you next time,
BEX.

Why clothes upcycling is important.
Clothes upcycling promotes a more sustainable, creative, and responsible approach to fashion, all of which contributes to a healthier planet and a more sustainable future.
Environmental Impact
Clothes upcycling helps reduce waste by repurposing old or unwanted garments, often diverting them from landfill.
With the fashion industry being one of the planets largest polluters, upcycling and repurposing clothing reduces the need for new materials and decreases carbon emissions associated with the product and disposal of clothing.
Conservation
Traditional clothing manufacturing consumes significant amounts of water, energy, and raw materials.
Upcycling clothing not only extends the life of existing textiles, conserving these valuable resources, but promotes more sustainable consumption patterns.
Creative Expression
Upcycling clothes and other materials encourages creative freedom by transforming old clothes into unique, personalised garments.
Upcycling and sewing fosters innovation and encourages people to experiment with designs, creating one-of-a-kind items that reflect personal style and creativity.
Cost Effective
Upcycling clothing can be very cost-effective by reducing money spent purchasing new clothes but can also assist charities when clothes are purchased second hand from charities.
Quality and Longevity
Repairing and mending clothing enhances the longevity of existing garments, giving them longevity in your wardrobe and limiting the need to purchase new clothes. This contrasts with fast fashion items, which are frequently designed for short-term use.
